Business Owners’ Personal Fight To Save Lives From Heart Disease

Tom and Judy Zorich

When Tom and Judy Zorich, owners of retail business Zorich Group, reflected on why they chose to fundraise for Australian Heart Research, the answer was simple: losing too many loved ones to heart disease.

“We have a special connection in supporting Australian Heart Research. We’ve had family members and close friends who’ve experienced irretrievable heart attacks with no prior warning,” Tom said.

In 2014, one of Zorich Group’s long-standing employees of 25 years, Kathy, experienced heartbreak through the sudden death of her 32-year-old son Tim, who passed away from arithmetic cardiomyopathy, a type of heart disease.

“Tim had a partner, two young boys and lots of loving family. He loved cars and was into drag racing and while he was a good driver himself, he preferred to be helping out his mates behind the scenes, a reflection of the type of person he was,” Kathy said.

As a business with a combined total of 16 stores around South Australia, Zorich Group raised over $5,000 by selling charity bags across their retail stores.

“We know heart disease is an illness that affects many people in our local community and its impact is devastating, which is why it is important for us to help raise money and awareness for the cause,” Tom said.

“We are proud to support Australian Heart Research through The Hospital Research Foundation Group with the aim to prevent deaths similar to Tim’s and to help find a cure.

“Life is short, and we need to find ways to help prevent heart disease. Calling on our customers to help us raise funds will give everyone the best chance to minimise the risk of this devastating disease.”
